End Date: 4/26/2017End Time: 4:15 PM

Event Description

“Teaching American Literature and American Culture in China”

Student Center Theatre; Wednesday, April 26, at 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Professor ZHANG Shengting, currently a Fulbright scholar at Yale, Professor WANG Yixuan, a Fulbright scholar at Harvard, and Professor ZENG Chuanfang, a visiting professor at Suffolk University, often encounter stereotyping of Puritanism, “the American Dream,” democracy, individualism and other high-frequency Americanisms  in their teaching in China.  Their University Hour panel discussion examines implications of these stereotypes with an aim to a clearer understanding of American-owned concepts in their Chinese contexts.

ZHANG is a professor of English at Xi’an International Studies University; WANG is an associate professor of English at Shanghai International Studies University; and ZENG is a professor of English and the dean of the College of International Education at Sichuan International Studies University.

The University Hour event is sponsored by the Department of English, Office of Equity and Diversity, and School of Arts and Sciences.
