Event Description

Winona LaDuke (Anishinaabe) is an internationally renowned environmentalist, Native rights advocate, author, and former Vice-Presidential candidate for the Green Party in the United States. LaDuke works on issues of climate change, renewable energy, sustainable development, food systems, and environmental justice, and is the founder and Co-Director of Honor the Earth, a national advocacy group that encourages public support and funding for native environmental groups. A graduate of Harvard and Antioch Universities with advanced degrees in rural economic development, LaDuke advocates restoring systems that have long been considered sacred. "Food for us comes from our relatives, whether they have wings or fins or roots. That is how we consider food. Food has a culture. It has a history. It has a story. It has relationships. We are at this point, known in prophecies as the time of the 7th fire, where we have a choice. This is a choice between a well-worn, scorched path and a new, green path. It is time to find our courage, do the right thing, and change consciousness."
