Event Description
"Tools for Plagiarism Prevention & Detection," Michael Palumbo, CIT, Susan Herzog, Librarian, and Angelo Simoni, University Judicial Officer. There are three components to this presentation. Michael Palumbo will present an overview of SafeAssign's Direct Submit tool now built into our Blackboard Vista System. SafeAssign, similar to Turnitin, compares student papers to a database of previous submissions, google searches, known marketers of material, online publishing resources, and its own global database of submissions. Susan Herzog will present pros and cons of using plagiarism detection software and will highlight some creative tools to prevent plagiarism. Angelo Simoni will focus on Eastern's Academic Misconduct Policy and the requirements that the policy imposes. He will provide copies of the policy and review the procedures for filing a complaint as well as a student's option once a complaint has been filed. |
